Music in the Classroom

Date of Prep Talk: January 31, 2007

Facilitator: Mrs. Kathy Openshaw, Band/Chorus Teacher

This session's focus intelligences: 

Objective:

  • Teachers will use music to enhance learning in the classroom.

Procedure:

  • Distribute hand outs on ideas for using music in the classroom.
     
  • Discuss rationale for music in the classroom.
     
  • Have teachers participate in a sample music in the classroom activity.
     
  • Group discussion and feedback.
     
  • Teachers participate in a second activity.
     
  • Follow-up discussion.

Summary of teachers response to this lesson:

Several teachers are already using music in the classroom. Some teachers asked for help selecting and locating music and ideas. One teacher noted that music is a "great way to attract student's attention."
