Creating Charts and Graphs
with MS Word
|
|
Date of Prep Talk:
February 21, 2007
Facilitator:
Mr. Richard Lamb, Computer Teacher
This session's focus intelligences:
Objectives:
- Enable students and teachers to use charts and graphs in MS Word
- Encourage teachers to have students utilize charts and graphs on the computer and/or in the classroom.
Summary:
Richard Lamb introduced the lesson with a handout that included bell work. Bell work is a teaching strategy that PHS teachers are encouraged to use at the beginning of each class. This bell work provided teachers with some time-saving tool options that they can take back and use on their desktop computers.
Mr. Lamb suggested that charts are a good bell work activity even if you do not have computers in the classroom for students to use. Teachers can print out charts for their students to fill in for a specific concept they are currently investigating.
As Richard proceeded through the chart creation process, teachers found it easy to follow his instructions as he provided oral instructions, pointed out steps on his lead computer connected to the projector, and supported it all with a helpful handout.
Summary of teachers response to this lesson:
Teachers were very receptive to this lesson. Several teachers are already using what they learned with their students. One teacher brought her students into the computer lab the next day and had them organizing their information they found on the Gale Student Resource Center.
