Checking Out Books/Materials

a)  Students may only borrow books and magazines.   Books and magazines are checked out for a   period of four weeks.  Reference books do not circulate.

b)  The student gives the adult behind the circulation desk the book and a card with his/her name imprinted on it.

                  *   Scan the student’s barcode number with the barcode scanner.  OR, type the student’s last name at the “patron name” prompt.   After the system displays the patron’s records, scan the book’s barcode number.

c)  Student books may be renewed by phone, email request, or in person.  Students do NOT need to have the book with them to renew.

d)  Staff members may check out books, videos, magazines, and AV equipment.  They may choose their own due date.  If the staff member is not available to ask, set the due date for May 15 of that school year.  Follow the same procedure as for checking out materials to students.

Hand-Charging Materials When The Circulation Computer Is Down

            a)  Locate clipboard with hand-charging sheets.

            b)  Have staff member/student print first and last name.

            c)  Copy the barcode number and title for each item onto the hand-charge sheet.

            d)  When the computer is operating again, enter in manually each item that

                  had been checked-out.

Checking In Books/Materials

            a)  Books and materials to be checked in are located in the book bin under the circulation desk.

            b)  Remove the book/material from the bin and locate the barcode number.  Use the scanner and scan the barcode number (The system will beep when the number is acknowledged.  —  Check to make sure       the barcode number that comes up on the screen matches the book’s/material’s barcode number).

Shelving Materials

            a)  After the book is checked in through the circulation computer, place it on

the book cart labeled “Materials To Be Shelved”.
