Monument Valley ends Parker's season
Staff reports

PRESCOTT VALLEY - The Lady Broncs knew the toughest match of the playoffs
would be the first. And the Mustangs proved them right - though not without
a fight. No. 1 Kayenta Monument Valley swept No. 16 Parker, 25-20, 25-5, 25-19.
"We had a huge obstacle and we knew it," said Parker assistant coach Dan
Maya. "They're so balanced. And their outside hitter, Bradley Nash, the
daughter of the coach, has two sisters that played Division I (college
volleyball) and she's signed with New Mexico State. She's the real deal."
Even though Monument Valley came into the match undefeated - and only
dropping three games over 16 matches this season - Parker played them tough,
going out to a 20-19 lead in the first game. But the Mustangs were able to
rally for the first game win. That seemed to take the wind out of the sails for the Broncs in Game 2 and the Mustangs cruised to the easy win.
However, the Broncs, behind outside hitter Autumn Garibay, put the second
game behind them and played the Mustangs point-for-point in the third game
until 18-18. That's when the Mustangs went into high gear and closed out the
match.
"Autumn played really well," said Maya. Alisha (Cruz) had a good game too,
so did Hailey (DeMoss) and our freshmen."
Following the match, Garibay chatted with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical
University head coach Katy Meyer, who was there to scout the Parker senior.
"This was a good group of girls to coach," said Maya. "We had good
leadership from Autumn and Dani (Banuelos) and the younger girls learned a
lot. We're excited about next year." Parker wasn't the only 3A West Region team knocked out of the playoffs in the first round. Region winner No. 5 Sedona Red Rock was defeated by No. 12 Snowflake, 25-23, 24-26, 25-18, 18-25, 7-15. And No. 11 Wickenburg fell to No. 6 Payson, 22-25, 15-25, 25-22, 23-25.
