The Parker Broncs' track team sent just two athletes to the state 1A-3A track meet held May 14 and 15 in Tempe, but they both made respectable showings.
Robert Harris placed 10th in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet-9 inches. Anthony Diaz placed 15th in the same event as he jumped 18 feet-1 inch. The Broncs were in no other events.
Coach Doug Meale said it was a good experience for Harris and Diaz, who are both sophomores, to participate in the state meet.
"They learned a lot from it," he said.
The top long jumper in the state was Sedona's Kevin Cox, who cleared 22 feet-2 inches. The top team was Sedona on the boys' side and Estrella Foothills on the girls' side. Meale noted these are two of Parker's 3A West rivals.
"It was nice to see the West take the team titles," Meale said.
Meale said the Broncs' young team did well this year despite a small number of athletes. He said he hope the team will do well next year, and he hopes more athletes will turn out for track.
