Broncs Drop Two Close Ones

The Parker Broncs lost two heartbreaking games this week losing at River Valley, 2-1 on Monday and a 2-1 double overtime game to Antelope at home on Thursday.  Monday the Broncs were to have a late afternoon start at 4:00 at River Valley but had to wait almost 3 hours due to the referees not showing up on time.  The Dust Devils scored in the first half and led 1-0 after the first 40 minutes of play.  Then senior Jose Magana headed in a corner lick to tie it up at 1-1.  Then with 2 minutes left in regulation, the Dust Devils found the back of the net and held off the Broncs in push for the equalizer to win.

Thursday, the top scoring team in the 3A West, Antelope visited Parker.  The Parker defense led by David Corona, Gabriel Salazar, Paul Neverez, Ray Gomez and goalie, Luis Nevarez stepped up to the challenge.  The Broncs got on the board first with a goal from Alfonso Rosales from an assist from Alfredo Campos.  The defense held the Ram offense scoreless in the first half.  In the second half, Edgar Urban, one of the top goal scorers in the state, fired a loose ball into the net to tie it.  The Broncs had a chance to go ahead with a minute in regulation but the shot went wide of the net and the game went into overtime.  The first overtime was scoreless and then Urbano had a free kick and it deflected off a Bronc defender and went in for the game winner.  Coach Dave Henneman praised his entire team for the great effort they showed on the field, “They gave everything they had and left on the field tonight, our team has improved so much from the beginning of the season.”  Earlier this season Antelope handled the Broncs beating them 6-0 at Wellton and 6-1 in the Shamrock Shootout.  Next up for Parker is the #4 team in the state, Northwest Christian on Tuesday with a 6:00PM start time at Joe Bush Stadium.
