Broncs drop last two soccer games of season

The Wickenburg Wranglers are considered one of the top 1A-3A soccer teams in the state, and the Parker Broncs found out why as they fell to the Wranglers 7-1 Wednesday afternoon in Parker.

It was the Broncs' final home game for the season. The game had been postponed from Monday due to clean-up efforts following flooding between Parker and Wickenburg.

The Broncs and the Wranglers played even for the first 20 minutes of the first half. After the Wranglers got their first goal, however, it was almost all Wickenburg the rest of the way.

Parker's lone goal was scored by Alfonso Rosales. Elias Cisneros had two goals for Wickenburg.

"Wickenburg's a good team," Parker Coach Dave Henneman said. "They're one of the best in the state. They've proved it."

The game marked the last home appearance in a Broncs' uniform for seniors Jacob Christman, Viridiana Rosales, Janel Garner, Guadalupe Felix, Jesus Saucedo, Joe Hill, Stanley Vescio and Roberto Gamez. They were all honored with certificates of appreciation in a ceremony at half-time.

"All our seniors got to play a lot of minutes today," Henneman said. "We got to honor them."

The Broncs played their final game of the season Jan. 28 in Goodyear against the Estrella Foothills Wolves. The Broncs got on the board first, but that was their high moments as the rest of the scoring came from the Wolves in a 8-1 drubbing.

Parker's Alfonso Lamas scored at 36:04 into the first half. The Wolves tied it up just before half-time, and then dominated the second half. David Rios scored five goals for Estrella Foothills.

The Wolves had 24 shots on goal for the game, as opposed to just seven for the Broncs.

Christman had 16 saves as Parker's goalie.
