The Cinderella post-season for the Parker Broncs baseball team came to an end Saturday in Surprise at they lost to Winslow, 14-1, in the first round of the state 3A baseball playoffs.

Coach Brian Browning remarked that, while the Broncs didn't get very far at state, they at least made it there for the first time since 1988. He said the team could see why Winslow was rated No. 1 in the state.

"They're good," he said.

Browning praised pitcher/infielder Sean Golding for the Winslow game, saying he pitched well despite the loss. Golding also had an RBI single. While he missed most the season due to a dislocated shoulder, Golding came back to hit .550 and pitch two crucial games for the Broncs in the regionals.

Golding was named to the 3A West all-region team.

Browning said the season was quite a ride, with the Broncs losing several close games. However, they came through when they needed to.

"A lot of games could've gone the other way," Browning said. "It all counted in the end."

The Broncs end the season with a final record of 9-19-1. The playoff game marked the final appearance in a Broncs' uniform for these seniors: Golding, Tyler DeMoss, Guy Self, Adrian Chavez, Jaime Gonzalez, and Joe Hill.

Broncs Going To State

The Parker Broncs traveled to Sedona Saturday and upset the favored Scorpions 9-4 to win the third place game in the 3A West Region Tournament.  With the win the Broncs secured an automatic bid to the 3A State Tournament and play Winslow Friday at 7:00PM at the Surprise Baseball Complex Field 3.  This is the first time the Parker Broncs baseball team has advanced to the state tournament since 1988.
