Coming off a loss to River Valley the night before, the Parker Lady Broncs basketball team completely dominated the Yuma Catholic Shamrocks, 61-16, Wednesday night in Parker.
It was the Lady Broncs' final home game of the 2009-10 season.
The Lady Broncs started the game with a pair of three-pointers and they never looked back. They kept up the press and led 18-3 at the end of the first quarter. They widened that gap to 31-7 by half-time.
In the second half, Parker Coach Shawn Thompson decided to give his freshmen some playing time, but they kept building up the Lady Broncs' lead.
Parker had three players in double-figures for points. Rosalyn Carlyle and Iliana Escoto each had 12, and Monique LeVie had 11. Dani Banuelos and Sydney Harper each had 7.
The top scorer for Yuma Catholic was Makena Zamora with 4 points.
Thompson said it was a great home finale for the Lady Broncs' two seniors, Ashley Alarcon and Brandi Ameelyenah.
"It was a good win," Thompson said. "We always like a win. We started out with the press, and then, in the second half, we gave the freshmen some playing time."
Thompson said the team played much better than they did the night before in a 53-34 loss to the
River Valley Dust Devils Tuesday night in Mohave Valley. He said the Lady Broncs did not play well in the first half, being down 34-14 at halftime. While they stepped things up in the second half, that was not enough to close the gap, however.
River Valley's Katie Simpson scored 14 points while Elizabeth Estes had 13. Raquel Ruiz scored 9.
For Parker in that game, Escoto had 11 points while LeVie had 6.
On Saturday, Jan. 23, the Lady Broncs defeated Palo Verde High School from Blythe, Calif., 57-28.
The Lady Broncs are now 7-12 on the season. On Saturday, they travel to Wellton, Ariz. to play the Antelope Rams. They'll have their final game on Feb. 3 in Wickenburg, where they will play the Wranglers. This game was postponed from Jan. 22 due to flooding between Parker and Wickenburg.
