In this WebQuest you will be expected to navigate the internet
and research poets. I will expect you to produce a brief biography of your
favorite poet, what gave them a love for poetry, their writing tendencies (types
of poems they wrote), and a literary analysis of one of their poems. In
this literary analysis you will react to the poem itself; explaining what you
think the author is saying in his/her lines, how you agree or disagree with it,
and whether or not you would recommend the reading of this poet to other
people...did the poem impact you and how? Remember
You will also be expected to surf the web (through the resources on this WebQuest or via your own direction) and find many different types of poetry. When you find a category of poetry that you like best, you will write at least three poems using that category. I would suggest writing about three different topics (ex. love, hate, drama, despair, death, unity.) Your final project will consist of you giving a brief speech where is you will describe the author that you chose to write about and the poetic category that you chose to write in (limerick, sonnet, ballad, etc.). Remember, the audience wants to know your thoughts; why you picked what you did and your reaction to your final conclusion. Extra credit will be possible for those who are over achievers. There will be a poetry slam at the end of the unit and each person who participates in the slam will be given 20 extra credit points. This will also include the judges and it will be done as a class.
