This Web Quest is cooperative learning project that combines research, critical thinking, and writing skills.  Students will be divided into small groups.  Each group member will cover ONE article on the topics that are listed below.
 

  • British Footholds in Africa from the late 1400s through the 1800s. The establishment of British trading outposts and early colonization.
  • The reason why one can claim it was the Suez Canal that brought Britain to Africa.
  • The English were forced into most of African Imperialism due to competition with France and Germany.
  • The rise of "The New Imperialism," the groups that supported it, and the reasons for their support of such a policy.
  • The impact of British imperialism on the indigenous peoples of Africa, and their immediate and long term responses to this policy.
